I’m Back!

Winter Bliss

Winter Bliss

OK, so after I got back from Europe, things got pretty busy.  I guess that’s to be expected when you take 5 weeks away from your business!  So it’s taken me 5 months to catch up on those 5 weeks, but I’m finally back at my blog, and hope to keep it up a bit more now.  For now, here’s a quick recap of the past few months…

I flew back from Europe on August 26th and began working the next day.  My first day back, I stayed up til 2:15.  So much for jet lag!

September – November mostly involved work, though I did squeeze in 3 trips to Florida, an autumn foliage retreat in the Berkshires, and a visit to my brother in Wisconsin.  I also setup a new workstation for my business and converted my old workstation into a recording computer, which I’ve been steadily turning into a full-fledged MIDI recording station. My goal this year is to finally record a CD.  I haven’t exactly gotten very far yet, so we’ll see how that goes.

December brought the same work load with all the flurry of Christmas activities added to the pile. Lots of music rehearsals, parties, concerts, etc.  Oh, and another trip to Florida.

January started off rather inauspiciously with only 3 hours of sleep and an inelegant tumble down the stairs with my fully-packed suitcase and backpack. My friend and fellow church music laborer, Steve, and I began our years with an early morning flight to… you guessed it, Florida, where we attended a week-long music conference. Yes, Florida made it into my activities one way or another for each of the past 5 months. And I don’t even like Florida very much!

Recently, I’ve decided to cut out traveling for a while. At least until I get tempted by the next Travelzoo deal that comes along. So far I’ve resisted requests to go skiing in Europe and California, so I’m doing better than most years! Skiing and snowboarding is still important though, so I’ve indulged myself on a couple of day trips to New York and Vermont. I bought an express pass to Killington, so I need to get up there at least a couple of more times this year to make that worthwhile.

The best thing is that I’ve been remarkably busy with work.  The Lord has continued to bless me even during what I hear is a bad economy. I did more business in January than I usually do in an entire quarter! I’m hoping this pace continues though, as my church is finally going to be applying for its building permit very soon. Initial cost estimates have come in discouragingly high, so I’m praying that I’ll be able to help contribute a bit more than usual towards this tremendous need. We are so ready to move out of our rented space!

At some point I’m going to start going through the 7+ hours of video I shot while I was in Europe and do some postproduction work in Premier. Then I can test posting a video on my blog.  How exciting!
